About the short

On Anne's wedding day, everyone in her hometown is filled with excitement. But not for Anne. The town is abuzz over the imminent arrival of Anne's beautiful, successful sister Sara. When the two sisters reunite, Anne learns that Sara has a special wedding present for her, a mysterious gift that just might enable Anne to come out of her "perfect" sister's shadow on her special day.

About the director

Amie Steir is a writer/director working in film and television. She has written and directed award-winning short films for MTV, HBO and Warner Brothers. Two of her shorts — Zoe Loses It (starring Amanda Peet, Gretchen Mol and Amy Poehler) and Date Squad (starring Amanda Peet, Sandra Oh and Adam Scott) aired on HBO and Cinemax and have screened at festivals all over the world. Steir also wrote and directed the feature film Nadine in Date Land (starring Janeane Garofalo) for The Oxygen Network. Her other television credits include the scripted comedy pilots F.O.C.'d for MTV and I. Never (produced by Paul Stupin) for ABC Family.

Director Statement

I started out writing 'Perfect' thinking I was Anne, but I realized by the end of it, that I'm also Sara. I'm Sara or I'm Anne depending on the day, the hour and the minute. Perhaps I'm more in my head (aka: delusional) than most but I would like to think I'm not the only woman who can relate to the central dynamic between the two sisters in this story.

This movie is my foolish attempt at tackling the complexity of female relationships — the rivalry, the competitiveness, the camaraderie and ultimately the deep love — in 10 minutes. But instead of expecting to solve that riddle wrapped in an enigma — I would happily settle for just one person laughing out loud after watching this movie and thinking to them self, "Oh my God, that's totally me!"
