About the short

Every morning, Ben is visited by a motley crew of imaginary playmates, products of his psychiatric disorder. Embodiments of the best and worst in Ben, these hallucinations both bring him comfort and create chaos. This forces Ben to make a difficult choice: continue to live in his fantasy world, or confront reality, by taking a pill that will destroy his imaginary world.

About the director

Caskey has shot national and international commercial spots for the likes of Coca-Cola, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, and The Energy Conservation Board. Caskey served as writer, creator and executive producer at Bob & Weave Entertainment, where she created original content for television, film, web, and interactive TV, including projects for Comedy Central and the FX Channel, among others. Currently Caskey is writing, directing and producing a documentary film for Levi's about the life and struggle of L.A.'s notorious graffiti artist TemptOne. The film is slated to be premiered at the "Art of the Streets," show at MOCA in July 2011, curated by Jeffery Deitch.

Director Statement

Ben's story is near and dear to my heart. I believe that his struggle is a universal conversation. Everybody can relate to the idea of having reoccurring characters pop up in our lives. Many of us have hidden demons that somehow comfort us, yet hold us back from experiencing happiness. Ben personifies this human struggle. What makes me admire him is that he has the strength to look himself in the mirror and take responsibility, for himself and his actions, for each new day. Ben is the brave one. Ben is the hero. I for one can't wait to see this character unfold. It is important to me that our character has the inner fortitude and desire to carry on despite the cycle that his life has become. My notion is that if Ben can, so can we.

Thank you USA for allowing me to ask provocative questions, and to explore this character in a meaningful way. I hope that great discussions and progress in empathy will come from making this story!
